Privacy Policy
Welcome to HRASM Online, owned and produced by the Human Resource Association of Southeast Michigan (HRASM) in conjunction with the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). HRASM is a professional membership association for the human resource profession and those with human resource responsibilities. Our website is available to all visitors, although some content and features are restricted to our HRASM members and/or our HRASM board of directors.
There are forms for visitors to request information, products, and services. These forms may ask for contact information (such as your phone number or e-mail address), unique identifiers (usually your HRASM and/or SHRM membership number, if one is available), financial information (such as your credit card number), or demographic information (for example, your age, location, PHR/SPHR designation, etc.). Contact information from these forms is used to provide the products, promotional materials, or memberships that you request. Forms on our site that request financial information do so in order to bill you for membership, meeting attendance, and/or products and services. Unique identifiers (specifically, your membership number) are collected from website visitors to verify the user's identity for access to restricted content or features on the site.

Frequently-Asked Questions
1. What information of yours does HRASM Online collect?
Our goal is to become your destination for HR-related information by providing information, services, and product offerings that are most relevant to you in the most convenient way. To achieve this goal, HRASM Online may collect information about site visitors.
Information collected online is usually defined as being either anonymous or personally identifiable.
Anonymous information refers to data that cannot be tied back to a specific individual. HRASM may collect some information each time a visitor comes to our website, so we can improve the overall quality of the visitor's online experience. For example, HRASM may decide to collect the visitor's IP address, browser, and platform type (e.g., a Netscape browser on a Windows platform). Gathering this data helps us to learn what browsers we need to support. Other anonymous information helps us determine what sections of our website are most popular and how many visitors come to our site. You do not have to register with HRASM Online before we can collect this anonymous information.
Personally identifiable information refers to data that tells us specifically who you are (e.g., your name and postal address). You are only required to provide such information when you join/renew or take advantage of optional products and services provided through our website.
HRASM collects personal information in the following ways from different parts of its website:
- Membership Applications: You are sharing personally identifiable information, including your name and mailing address, with us when you join or renew your HRASM membership through our website. Board members and HRASM members may be given a membership number, and this member ID and password enables members to take advantage of restricted content and features on HRASM Online.
- Other Registration: You may be asked for personal information when registering for specific events or services. For example, if you subscribe to an e-mail newsletter, you will be asked to provide your e-mail address.
- Online Purchases: We also ask for personal information when you make a purchase or when you subscribe to a publication through our website. The number and variety of useful services on HRASM Online that may require collection of personally identifiable information will continue to grow in the future.
2. What are "cookies" and how does HRASM use them?
A cookie is a small text file containing a unique identification number that is transferred from a website to the hard drive of your computer. This unique number identifies your web browser-but not you-to SHRM computers whenever you visit HRASM Online. A cookie will not provide personally identifiable information about you, such as your name and address. The use of cookies is now an industry standard, and cookies are currently used on most major websites. Most web browsers are initially set up to accept cookies. If you prefer, you can reset your browser to notify you when you have received a cookie. You can also set your browser to refuse to accept cookies altogether. While HRASM currently does not use cookies and does not require you to use cookies, keep in mind that certain services will not function properly if you set your browser to refuse all cookies.
In the future, if cookies are used on the HRASM website, they will generally be used to:
- Identify return visitors. Cookies let us remember your web browser so we can provide personalized member services. Cookies could also allow us to identify members who are returning to the site, so you will not have to re-enter a member ID and password the next time you visit.
- Display advertisements. HRASM may use an outside ad company to display board-approved ads on our website. While we may use cookies on other parts of our website, the cookies received with banner ads are collected by an ad company. The purpose of ad company cookies is to allow HRASM to manage the delivery of ads; these cookies do not collect personally identifiable information.
3. What organization collects the information and who has access to it?
Data collected through the HRASM website is generally collected and maintained solely by HRASM. More specifically:
a.) Personally identifiable information.
(i) Information provided when you join, renew, or register for services or products. When you provide personally identifiable information on HRASM Online to register for an event, buy a product, take advantage of a promotion, or join/renew your membership, HRASM currently does not sell any mailing lists to third parties.
In the future, if the board makes a decision to sell mailing lists or email addresses to selected third parties, you will have an ability to opt out of such list sales at any time. Notice will be posted promptly on this website if HRASM ever chooses to sell mailing lists to third parties, and participants will be notified regarding the process to opt out.
b.) Anonymous information.
We may at times disclose to third-party sponsors/advertisers only aggregate statistics. Also, we may share aggregate website statistics with the media or other third parties. No personally identifiable information is disclosed to these sponsors/advertisers or other third parties as part of this process-only information in an aggregate form.
Be aware that HRASM's sponsors, advertisers, and third-party content providers have links on our site that take you to other websites. For example, when you click on an ad displayed on HRASM Online, you are linked to another site. Please note also that links to other websites are provided throughout HRASM Online for users' information and convenience. HRASM hopes that all third parties involved adhere to our policies regarding the privacy of our users. However, HRASM's Online Privacy Policy does not cover third-party data collection practices, and HRASM Online does not assume any responsibility for any actions of third parties.
This site may, from time to time, use the services of certain web analytics companies such as ClickTale web analytics service. ClickTale may record mouse clicks, mouse movements, scrolling activity as well as any text you type in this website. ClickTale does not collect personally identifiable information that you do not voluntarily enter in this website. ClickTale does not track your browsing habits across web sites which do not use ClickTale services. We would use the information collected by ClickTale service to make the website easier to use.
You can choose to disable the service at http://www.clicktale.net/disable.html.
4. How does HRASM use the information it collects?
HRASM collects information to provide you with the services you request and to improve our website.
If you join HRASM or renew your HRASM membership through our website, we use the personally identifiable information you provide in the membership application to send you email notifications, newsletters, membership renewal notices, and occasional member surveys
As mentioned above, HRASM uses the aggregate, anonymous data collected to let our sponsors/advertisers know the number of impressions or views and the number of "click-throughs" on their advertisement(s) if ads are used on this site. HRASM may also use this aggregate, anonymous data to perform statistical analyses of the collective characteristics and behavior of our site visitors; to measure user interests regarding specific areas of the HRASM Online; and to analyze how and where best to use our resources. Without such data, we would not know which parts of HRASM Online are the most popular, and we would not be able to change and update the content and services appropriately.
HRASM may be required by law enforcement or judicial authorities to provide information on individual users to the appropriate governmental authorities. In matters involving a danger to personal or public safety, HRASM may voluntarily provide information to appropriate governmental authorities.

Any other particularly sensitive information, such as your credit card number, collected for a commerce transaction will be encrypted prior to transmission.
You are ultimately responsible for the security of your HRASM/SHRM member ID and password. This site may make bulletin boards, discussion lists, and/or moderated chats available to its members from time to time.
